jalan jalan : music and street atmospheres in the heart of java

a free-flowing mix of ambient street sounds and street musicians from solo, yogyakarta, and borobodur, java, recorded in may 2008. includes the sounds of walking street musicians playing guitar, singing, homemade gamelan, call to prayer, markets, bus musicians, pigeons with whistle-tails, train station krontjong, insects, motorcycles, a bit of radio; the wonderful integration of outdoor sounds occurring in everyday life in these cities. full color cover featuring photos taken by Linda Peschong, cdr, and xeroxed insert with information.

bali : converging orchestras of life and rebirth on the island of the gods

assembled from recordings made during cremation season, june/july 2008 in : amed, bangli, jasri, peliatan, tenganan, and ubud, bali. includes cremation drumming on a beach, wedding songs coming from a loudspeaker near the ocean while kids play football, sounds from temple grounds and rice paddies, children playing gamelan instruments in both an organized and chaotic manner (the former at a mass cremation of 54 people), a numerable amount of marching gamelan passing, including the ceremonial procession of the late head of the Ubud Royal Family (carried in a 27 meter high tower with subsequent gamelan beleganjur) and others, frog sounds and frog music, one of the oldest gamelan forms, a giant circular squeaky swing in which pretty maidens ride upon, monkey chant, and more. a collage presenting the integration of everyday life and nature with entertainment and ceremonial music on this hindu island. full color cover features photos taken by Linda Peschong, cdr, and xeroxed insert with information.

jpm asia archive 2008 : vol. 2 - call to prayer

a direct and unedited recording featuring the build up of sounds of an afternoon call to prayer recorded from the center of solo (surakarta), java; and a little more from tawamanggu, java, at the end. complete with the tape player speeding up from one mosque tannoy if you listen closely. recorded may 2008.

asia radio environments

hand held portable shortwave radio recorded may-october 2008 on location in java/ bali/lombok (indonesia), myanmar, thailand, and japan. direct transmissions were played live in the environment with the cheap little device. also, direct recordings of bizarre radio transmissions picked up with the radio. assembled into a single composition, for your boom-box.
