A
small myna-like bird with only one foot, in a cage outside of a
small shop.
It mimicked the sounds children's voices, and of construction --
particularly the sound of people hammering wood at a distance.
Luang Prabang was undergoing much new construction at the time.
"Puega Puebo" was the bird's name, which means "banana"
in Laotian.
The cover drawing was made on location.
